Elgin Pocket Watch – History, Value and Pure Quality

I assume that you are interested or like me have a love and passion for antique watches. I have had this passion since I was a small child and that came as a direct result of watching old Western Cowboy films about the railroads. I sent many Saturday afternoons inside what we called a picture house staring at the big screen and enjoying these fascinating films.

The one thing other than the actual gun fights that truly interested me was when the man would step down from the train, glance downwards at his pocket and then produce a gold coloured pocket watch attached to a gold chain. From there he would click it open and glance at the time. I am sure for many people this was probably quite an insignificant moment in the film but for me it was always a moment of magic and so began my love for antique watches.

It was only when I grew older that I started to look at the interesting history of these watches that my desire to own one truly began. My parents did buy me a cheap pocket watch when I was very young probably to stop me harping on at them but even though it was not an antique I loved it a lot, as did many of my friends.

When I decided to buy a watch, I then researched that whole area a lot. I looked at the many different manufacturers and eventually decided that Elgin watches were the ones for me. The decision for that was I assure you one based on sentiment rather than any prospective value. The Elgin pocket watch is simply steeped in railroad history and was the main attraction for me.

I also loved the huge variety of choice and styles available which I found to be quite an attractive feature and benefit for me. I like to have choice in a market and Elgin certainly offers that in abundance. As it turned out I also got great value as well though I have to be honest and say that was not my primary driver. I have been collecting these watches for many years and have discovered that they only ever go up in value.

That turned out to be good news but it would not have stopped me from collecting these watches anyway such were my love of these amazing time pieces. They truly are classic in every way you can imagine and I have had many hundreds of hours enjoyment from simply having them on display.

You do however need to exrecise care when purchasing one and just make sure that you are getting the genuine article. Sadly there are fakes out there and like any market, especially the antique market, you need to ensure and get verified that you are indeed buying the genuine article.

That will mean getting some advice from an expert and even though that may incur a small charge, it is something you should absolutely do, especially if your potential investment is anything over $100. I do hope that you consider getting an Elgin pocket watch so just make sure that you do your research first and it will bring you many years of enjoyment afterwards.
